Frequently asked questions
1What exactly is an elopement?
An elopement is an intimate and personal way for couples to celebrate their love and commitment in a more private setting. It's a chance to focus on each other without the traditional big wedding ceremony.
2Do we need a visa to elope in Europe?
Most European countries allow U.S. citizens to visit for tourism purposes without a visa for up to 90 days. However, it's essential to check the specific entry requirements for the country you choose for your elopement.
3 Can we have a legally binding ceremony in Europe?
- Even if many European countries recognize marriages conducted there as legally binding, Spain is kind of complicated, as one of you needs to be resident for at least two years in the country.
- Italy has different legal requirements and you need to do some paperwork in advance to get your marriage registered.. However, it's crucial to research and follow the specific legal requirements of the country you select.
4What do we recommend in terms of ceremony?
The concept of elopement wasn't born really for getting a legal marriage certificate but for having a unique moment in a dreamy destination. We recommend you do all the legal wedding at your country and just enjoy this moment of vows exchange
5What are the best times of the year for elopements and destination weddings in Europe?
- Europe offers diverse climates, so the best time depends on your preferred weather. Spring (April to June) and early fall (September to October) are generally popular due to milder temperatures and fewer tourists.
- Take note that elopements are only available from Monday to Thursday as weekends most vendors are booked for larger weddings.
6How soon should we start planning our European elopement or destination wedding?
- Planning timelines vary, but it's advisable to start at least six months in advance. This allows ample time to secure necessary documents, book vendors, and ensure a seamless and stress-free elopement experience.
- For destination weddings we recommend to begin the process at least one year before to search and book the celebration venue
7Can we invite guests to our European elopement?
While elopements are usually just the couple, of course you can still bring a few friends and family.
8 Can we invite guests to our European wedding destination?
Yes!! Destination weddings are like usual weddings just celebrated far from your country. Anyway we don’t recommend more than 150 guests. It is complicated to manage so many people in a place they don’t know and maybe don’t speak the language.
9What if we need to reschedule or cancel our elopement?
- Our vendors understand that circumstances can change. It's important to discuss cancellation and rescheduling policies with each vendor individually.
- For cancellations our agency deposit fee will be lost except for major cause reasons.
10What is the difference between an elopement and a destination wedding?
In summary, while both elopements and destination weddings involve celebrating a couple's commitment in a unique setting, elopements are generally smaller, more spontaneous, and less formal, while destination weddings involve a larger guest list and more extensive planning, often in a location away from home. Couples choose between these options based on their personal preferences, desired level of formality, and the experience they envision for their special day.
11Who will take care of your guests' logistics in your destination weddings?
We would love to help you with that, but many years of experience have shown us that it is better to offer a list with different choices for their stay as every person has different needs and preferences. In case you are planning to stay all together at the same place we can assist with the reservation.
12What will I need to book Violante de Mez Elopements services?
To get your date and service confirmed you should sign a contract and pay our reservation fee, which corresponds to a third of the total amount.
